Where can I get my wheels balanced in Nerang?

What's involved

A wheel and tyre assembly is never perfectly even in weight. At 100km/h an imbalance of a few grams turns into a vibration you can feel through the steering wheel or the seat.

Balancing puts small counterweights on the rim to cancel that out. It is done on the machine, every time a tyre is fitted here, and it can be done on its own if a vibration has developed.

One thing worth being clear about: balancing and alignment are not the same job. Balancing is about weight. Alignment is about the angles the wheels sit at. They cause different symptoms and need different equipment.

Balancing or alignment? How to tell

Getting this the wrong way round wastes money, so here is the short version:

What is the difference between wheel balancing and wheel alignment?

Balancing corrects uneven weight distribution around a wheel and tyre assembly, using small counterweights on the rim. It fixes vibration at speed. Alignment adjusts the angles at which the wheels sit relative to the car and the road, and it fixes pulling to one side and uneven wear across a tyre's width. They are separate jobs on separate equipment.

Do you do wheel alignments as well?

How often do wheels need balancing?

There is no service interval. Wheels are balanced whenever a tyre is fitted, and otherwise only if a vibration develops or a weight is lost — usually after hitting a pothole or a kerb.

Will balancing fix my steering wheel being off-centre?

No. An off-centre steering wheel when driving straight is an alignment symptom, not a balance one. Balancing will not change it.
